#sunny.day.in.bristol (is that how you tweet?)

The past three days the sun has replaced the constant rain in Bristol. Pete told me today that this nice weather is the #1 topic on twitter in England right now. Thats how big (or how sad) it is.

Anytime it is warm here I always seem to end up down at the harbor. Its like escaping to Spain or something. It has an entirely different feeling from the rest of Bristol.

On my walk back the parks were full of people on their lunch break, which gave me an idea...

The first and last BBQ this summer for Pete and I in Bristol.

We went up to the downs, which is just a massive field at the top of the hill and started our BBQ. But as soon as the fire started going, security came up and threatened us with a 70 pound fine each...

So we put out our BBQ and had to find somewhere else.

We resorted to our local park bench.. Not quite the same, but the food was good!

Thanks for the awesome BBQ, Mom!

I don't have a name for this one.

Our new bed!

Pete told me he didn't care what the duvet looked like and that it was just a bed... but right now he is sitting beside me reading PRIDE AND PREJUDICE... so I actually think he likes the flowers.

This is for you Casey; the little bird, just as you imagined.

We found this book shelf on the street yesterday. Someone just left it outside for the taking... Or so Pete told me. Even though I believed him, I still wanted to pack it into the car in a rush... It seems too good to be true.

We went back to that junk yard on Sunday to get these crates and made this shoe rack.

And we finally got a couch! No longer do we have to sit across the room from each other in our stiff leather chairs... or push the guests to the floor when we race for a seat.

Pete's mom, Rachel, came this weekend and delivered our clock to us that she gave us for our engagement present. I love it! Oh and that grey table is done... 5 layers of paint later.

And that is that.
Pete wants me to tell you that he is really reading sports. The rough kind where they hit and tackle each other.... "Rugby".

I started knitting yesterday.. The first line took me about an hour as I was squinting at the computer screen following the youtube lady saying "Its soo simple, just do a loop here, push it there, and it will pop out there....." WHAT! anyways now I have the first line and am working on the easy bit. It will either be a scarf or a wash cloth depending on how soon I get a job.

I really have to remember to bring my camera out with me.. I swear I did a lot more this weekend than sit on the couch and knit... just no picture evidence.

BYE FOR NOW

The weekend

On Thursday Pete and I went to his friends bands show and then had drinks with some of his Medic friends.

Saturday we found my new favorite junk/antique seller. I could be in there for hours!

A beautiful house on our way home the other night.

Pete's sister Marie is going to a boarding school in England and we are her legal "guardians" in England. On her first day I went with her to pick up her uniform. Once she was done the lady asked me if I had mine yet.. I replied saying well I'm actually just here to help Marie since I was her guardian. The lady looked so embarrassed and shocked. Later we went on a tour around the school and the girl giving us a tour did not know who she was talking to. She kept shifting her eyes between Me and Marie not sure who would be attending the school. I really enjoyed that... It probably didn't help that I covered my name tag with my hair that said "Mrs. Verheul"! It's still to weird for me to be called that. I prefer pretending to be a student.

Anyways, yesterday I took the train back to the school to take Marie out shopping and to a movie. These are just a few pictures from our day.

Poor Marie has to walk this every day to school. It is such a beautiful area!

Marie wouldn't let me get it.

Pizza before the movie!

I don't know what that building is, but it's nice.

That's all.

I still can't comment so thanks for your messages and I am glad your reading/looking.

New Tables... A worthy post?

People who have blogs usually have something important to write about, like kids, jobs, travel, or just a really good thought.

Me, I have a rainy day, a paint brush and new tables (second hand new)!

Our new kitchen table.. with a leaf for extra seating of course!

Ugly brown/brass lamp turned beautiful and bright.

But this table just did NOT work out ....

The paint just will not stick!! I even sanded and primed the table (don't worry I am still looking for a job). What I think went wrong was that I used an oil based primer and then a water based paint..? Ideas?
Whatever it is, I am going out and getting more sand paper and dealing with it.

In other news, our bed delivery guys went to the wrong house or something and now we will be on the air-mattresses for ten more days!!

Question:
Kylie, Kendra, Nana J (I'm guessing auntie Judy), how do you comment on the blog? I thought for sure I would at least be able to comment on my own blog... but I can't figure it out!

blogging makes me nervous...

This is my first time making a blog, and it may be my last depending on how easy this process is. But I think that this will be the best way of keeping all informed on my life. I don't enjoy writing, but I love photos, so you will have to make some of the story up with your own imagination based on the pictures.  So here it goes...

I'm in Bristol, finally, after flying to Toronto, driving to New York, flying to Iceland and then to England, Then driving/ferry ride to Belgium, and then back to England. YAY!

Of course our first night here we had to have pizza, especially after carrying everything up to the top flat.

I love the windows in our place. The all have such a great view of Bristol!

Our bedroom. We are still sleeping on air-mattresses, but our real bed arrives Tuesday, however we still need a duvet cover.

So, that was the first night and NOW..... FOR THE GUIDED TOUR! After a week of Pete being back to university and extra rainy days, I have had plenty of time to organize, decorate and reorganize and redecorate. Pete said that every time he came home something had changed.

Kitchen
I have an addiction to Le Creuset right now. We got a pot from Pete's aunt, and then some of Pete's medic friends gave us two casserole dishes and I also found the kettle and utensil holder really cheap online.  But I have promised myself no more..

Storage room! i love storage

The lounge, with random pieces of furniture. We are still looking for a couch and kitchen table. But the coffee table will be grey and the wine rack top will be teal. I have the paint, but am just waiting for a sunny day.
And the amazing painting that Pete's brother Paul did and gave to us for our wedding present.

That cabinet was from Pete's parents basement, which we sanded and cleaned up. I LOVE it.

More of the Kitchen

Our bedroom.

Bathroom

Guest room posing as our laundry room right now.

A view from the guest room.

And that's me! Pete told me to wave to be sure everyone could see me in the picture.

And this is our home. Top Flat, 63 Cotham Brow. It has a great view of Bristol since it is on top of the massive hill in Bristol. Great to get to anywhere, but a serious hike to get back.

Well that is all for now.. This was not as painful as I had imagined so I may be back.
